Takata to pay billion after the scandal – Västerbottens-kuriren (the Courier)

Economy. The japanese company Takata to pay billions after the scandal with the airbags. At least 16 deaths linked to the defective airbags. Three former executives at the company are prosecuted as well.

Takata and the us department of justice has concluded a deal to Takata to pay a billion dollars, closer to nine billion.

According to the justice department’s $ 25 million fine while 125 million goes to the victims. The remaining 850 million is to be paid to the car manufacturers.

Three former managers at the company Takata to be prosecuted in the united states, a grand jury decided. Defective airbags manufactured by Takata are linked globally to at least 16 deaths.

The three, which ended at the company in 2015, is suspected of having fooled the automakers to buy the defective air bags by false reports. An arrest warrant has been issued for them.

According to the indictment, the managers already in the year 2000 have known that the gas generators used to inflate the airbags did not work according to the manufacturers specifications and that they have not passed all the tests.

Recently, the German billtillverkaren Volkswagen to pay 4.3 billion dollars, closer to 39 billion Swedish kronor, to the u.s. government. Volkswagen has admitted that the software installed which distorted the test results of exhaust emissions.
