Flies raise olive oil prices – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Several Italian olive growers testify in half or completely missing harvesting of stone fruit.

– This year we produced not a single bottle, says Frederico Leszczynski, an agronomist at the olive farm Tenuta Ronci north Lazio, told AFP.

Normally, the 1 700 trees provide around 10000/2 liter bottles.

– People are talking about a production loss of 35 percent across Italy. I would say it is too optimistic. Around here, it will be 70-80 percent, says Leszczynski.

In Spain, the world largest producer of olive oil, is expected to heat and drought along with bacteria of different kinds knock out half of the normal harvest. But the man’s death, the other’s bread. In Greece and Tunisia hopefully now using their own good harvests pick market share. And in Australia is a huge potential if prices remain high.
