New elections are expected in Greece – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The Government consists of the bourgeois New Democracy and Socialist PASOK, which together have a fragile majority of just 155 of Parliament’s 300 seats. It proved to be too small to get through their candidate, former EU commissioner, Stavros Dimas as president. Dimas received 168 votes in parliament, thus reaching short of the 180 needed.

The Parliament will be dissolved and new elections will be in a few weeks. According to Greek media are suitable date January 25 or February 1.

Svenska Dagbladet wrote earlier in December that it has long been quiet in Greece. The debt crisis is no longer acute, ALL-NIGHT NEGOTIATIONS are in Brussels is over and the markets have calmed down. But the presidential election could be the beginning of a new phase of political and therefore economic instability.
