Volvo pulls out of motor sports race STCC.
The contract expires after 2015 and then made an assessment of continued competition.
– But we have ambitious plans for the racing team, says Polestar’s press officer Johan Meissner.
According to Dagens Industri will automaker Volvo Cars to dump all sponsorships except own event Volvo Ocean Race.
This means that it pulls out of the STCC when the contract expires next year.
Something that may affect masterpiece driver Thedford Birch and his team-mate Fredrik Ekblom.
Negotiates on new contract
– It might actually get something positive out of this. It’s about the Volvo handing over responsibility to the Pole Star and the team has known about long, says Björk, who is currently being negotiated his new contract.
How does it look on the front ?
– It looks good. I have delivered and my goal is to win the title for the third year in a row. We’ll probably go out with something soon, says Birch.
Polestar’s press officer Johan Meissner emphasizes that cooperation between the racing team and Volvo will continue.
“Unbelievable that we continue”
It is the continuing rivalry in the STCC to be evaluated.
– After 2015, it will be an evaluation but the change is more about the structure of which is responsible for the racing team, not to Polestar withdraws from the STCC, he said.
Nothing is decided in terms of a continuation in the STCC 2016. Here’s says Alain Visser, marketing manager at Volvo Cars, Göteborgs-Posten.
– We has not yet taken any formal decision for 2016. Given what we have said today, as I see it, however, that quite incredible that we would continue.
