Ohlsson will be the new Deputy Governor – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Henry Ohlsson is Professor in economics at Uppsala University. He sits today in the Employment Service Board and is Chairman of the Economic Council, but leaving those missions when he becomes a new member of the Executive Board.

Ohlsson replaces Karolina Ekholm, who left the Riksbank last fall to become Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance .

– Ohlsson has extensive academic experience and has conducted research primarily on issues related to labor, wage and taxes. It complements other members of the Executive Board in a good way, says Governor councilor Susanne Eberstein and Vice Chairman Michael Lundholm in a joint statement.

The decision to appoint Ohlsson was passed unanimously by the General Council.

Ohlsson given the title of deputy governor and is appointed for a term of six years. He will assume the position January 12. He is to take part in its first monetary policy meeting in February. The fact that a Henry replaces an Karolina so does the appointment to the Executive Board in the future will consist of four men and two women.

The members generally prefer to hike rates usually called interest rate hawks, or just hawks. Members who do want to keep interest rates low and advocates a more expansionary monetary policy is usually called pigeons. The question is which bird Ohlsson?

– It is good that you have found an academic. But I do not know much about him, if he is a hawk or dove, says Robert Bergqvist, chief economist at SEB.

At Nordea perceive it Henry Ohlsson slightly dovish.

– It is difficult to know what position he will have when he sits on the Executive Board, but we have noted that the industry’s financial advice before criticizing the Riksbank for failing to cut interest rates fast enough. It gives an indication of what he stands, says Torbjörn Isaksson, chief analyst at Nordea.

– A great choice for the Riksbank and the Swedish economy, but not at all good for the Economic Council, says Cecilia Hermansson, senior economist at Swedbank, on Twitter.

The Riksbank holds press conference morning where the new Deputy Governor presented.
