US stock markets could on Tuesday rejoice that America’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5 percent in the third quarter of 2014, compared to the same quarter last year. Economists had on average expected a rise of 4.3 per cent and not since 2003 has the US economy been so good as now.
Biotech companies went against the tide and weighed on the Nasdaq that landed in the red.
The Dow Jones industrial index rose 0.4 percent, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 0.3 percent.
