An elderly man died after being hit by a logging truck on Highway 87 between Långsele and Sollefteå.
The man had tried to stop several cars before the accident.
Just before 17, police received in Västernorrland several calls about a dark-clad man was at Highway 87. The man should have tried to stop passing cars.
– We received many calls from people who almost hit the man, says Martin Södervall, duty officer at the police in Sundsvall.
The trap immediately
Shortly thereafter added a new conversation about that the man had been hit by a timber. The police were then at another alarm in Kramfors, about an hour’s drive away. Emergency services and police were reported to the scene and the man, who is 75 years old, was later transferred to Sollefteå hospital by ambulance. He must have died instantly from his injuries.
– It went very quickly, says Martin Södervall.
The man had driven into the ditch and went up the road to get help. The road was slippery and police said it was very poor visibility on the site.
– It is a fairly narrow stretch of road and there are no lights, Robert Öhman, duty officer at the police in Sundsvall.
“There was nowhere to go”
The driver of the timber truck has been described to police how the man stood and waved down the road.
– The man stood out in the roadway and was just a meter away when he was discovered. There was nowhere for the truck to go, says Robert Öhman.
The driver of the timber truck should have proceeded without physical damage, but is difficult shocked.
The man’s relatives are informed.
