BRUSSELS. On Tuesday ratified the EU-parliament climate agreement – one of the many votes and signatures are required before the whole of EUROPE proud, and can jointly submit their final approval of the klimatuppgörelsen for archiving in the united nations headquarters in New York.

All ratificeringsdokument – a from across the EU together, one from the EU parliament, and so, ideally, one from each EU country – must be submitted to the UN in paper form. It is not enough to email them, for example.

However, the EU institutions hope to be able to save on a plane ticket to New York city by referring the whole pappersluntan directly to the UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon, who right now are in Europe. Sydkoreanen was on Tuesday a guest in the EUROPEAN parliament in Strasbourg.

the overwhelming majority of the meps – 610 of 751 members – then voted to ratify the paris agreement. So there was great joy after the vote.

– the paris agreement has a "Trump-clause", which means that Donald Trump can say what he want even if he wins the election, but it does not change the decision, said EU parliamentarian Linnéa Engström (MP).

The american presidential candidate Donald Trump is klimatförändringsförnekare, and wants to scrap the agreement if he becomes president of the united states.

But all the countries included in the climate pact is legally bound to it in the four years from the date the contract takes effect. With the EU approval this can now be done – before the presidential election in the united states in the winter.

the EU has been a driving force in climate change, and the union see themselves as the world’s foremost champion of renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Jean-Claude Juncker, EUROPEAN commission president, said recently that the union’s international credibility is damaged by the individual EU countries are dragging their legs behind with the ratification.

in particular, an EU country, Poland, has invited much resistance. Poland is 92% of the koldrivet when it comes to energy, and has close to 200 000 workers in the country’s coal mines.

and with that, very exceptionally, have allowed the EUROPEAN union to ratify as a group, despite the fact that the home ratifications in the 28 EU-countries is not clear, and despite the fact that Poland still does not want to be with, at least a common representative for the whole EU to sit down at the next global climate summit.

This will be held in Marrakech in november, and the only parties that have ratified the agreement may be with around the table.

Poland may, however, be a problem again when the climate agreement is to be implemented. The EU countries adopted a common goal to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 per cent before the year 2030 (relative to 1990 levels). It is when you should start distributing the minskningsbördan between the EU-countries like Poland can set the new argument.

– You can write how many beautiful treaty at any time, but it is the work and the application that counts, said the EUROPEAN parliament (meps) Fredrick Federley (C), which, nevertheless, was very happy after the vote in Strasbourg.

– clearly a historic day. Great to be a small part in this global work, ” said the liberal.
