Not since they started keeping statistics in the field of aviation safety (1969), the number of fatalities with Swedish registered aircraft have been so few. During the year, one person was killed in general aviation. It shows preliminary statistics from the Swedish Transport Agency.
General aviation is the part of the flight other than commercial or for use in nature (agricultural aviation, search and rescue, etc.). Within scheduled and charter traffic has no killed or seriously injured by a Swedish-registered aircraft of more than ten years.
The absolute majority of aviation accidents in the Swedish aviation takes place in recreational aviation field. Especially aircraft categories paragliding, ultralight and private flights are overrepresented in accidents.
Number of seriously injured were five in 2014, which is the minimum number during the past 10 years. Three injured in paragliding, one at hang gliding and a flight with the glider. In 2013, ten people were injured severely and even then took the majority of the injuries associated with paragliding.
– Although accidents are few Transport Agency is continuing to develop its work in aviation safety. In 2014, we formed a General Aviation Safety Council which, among other things, will be working with in-depth analyzes of event types within the general aviation category. Work is underway to develop proposals for new aviation safety for general aviation and it is thought that these would extend until 2020, says Jacob Gramenius, Staff Director and Deputy Director General of the Swedish Transport Agency.
Transport Agency is also working on other initiatives to enhance security in aviation. Read more about Transport Agency’s preliminary statistics and work in road safety in the report Traffic safety in Sweden, the Swedish Transport Agency website.
