Sales of gasoline continues to fall. Last year, reduced gasoline sales by 4 percent. Since the peak year of 1989, gasoline sales dropped by 40 percent.
“The large decrease is primarily a result of the transition to energy-efficient cars and diesel,” according to a commentary by Ulf Svahn, CEO of the Swedish Petroleum and Biofuels Institute (SPBI).
The sale of ethanol, E85, decreased by about 12 percent last year. Sales of diesel rose by about 2 percent.
