Hundreds of people placed out colorful lanterns that lit up the Raoul Wallenberg Square at Nybroplan in Stockholm on Tuesday.

One of those who paid tribute to victims of the Holocaust were Moegelin Lena, 52, from Stockholm, who was on site along with their daughters:

– My Dad were from Germany of Jewish origin. All of the grandmother’s side in Poland disappeared. All. I’m here to think about all the relatives. We must never forget what happened, says Lena Moegelin.

From the stage spoke Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

– We must never belittle this wound in human history. We must fight hatred.

The leaves mentioned 5,500 hate crimes reported annually in Sweden.

– Sweden is not the inviolability of all this terrible. It’s time to talk plainly about what is happening.

“We have the tools”

Prime Minister presented a million bet against racism, against increasing anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, which will go under the slogan “This we need to understand. “

– As early as the end of the war torn down many concentration camps. Therefore, it is we who live must tell what happened, said Löfven.

Now the work to reach out to young intensified, told the Prime Minister.

– Hatred, contempt and prejudice are not given in a society. Just because it has marked our history will not be able to destroy our future. So now let us together on this Memorial Day to promise each other to work together for a more transparent Sweden. For we know, in every heart there is a beachhead of goodness. In every darkness there is light. And in our hands are the tools we need to build a more open and freer society, ended the leaves.

Tar decision on Thursday

The mandate to carry out the training effort may Living History Forum , who also arranged the memorial ceremony at the Raoul Wallenberg Square on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp 70 years ago. The decision to Living History Forum, which comes under the Ministry of Culture, receives five million extra in 2015 and another ten million in 2016 and 2017 are taken by the Government on Thursday.

After Löfven given speeches he went to Stockholm synagogue a piece from there. There he attended a memorial ceremony for victims of the Holocaust. There was also attended by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and several ambassadors and top politicians from different parties.

“It is our shared responsibility”

After the ceremony gave Löfven, who was one of the speakers in the synagogue, a short interview to Aftonbladet.

– In my speech here, I wanted to bring forward, we must always remember what happened. It must never happen again. We should be mindful of what can be rooted in a society.

Many Jews in Sweden feel today is not safe on the streets. What is your message to them?

– It is our collective responsibility to ensure that Jews can feel safe. You should be able to exercise their faith and carry their identity with pride and joy. We will work together to ensure. That’s why I gave the police a mandate to prioritize hate crime so as to be able to live in safety. Then we have as neighbors speak up when violations occur.

Even Erik Ullenhag (FP) attended the ceremony:

– It is awful to correct many of the synagogue tonight, feel a fear of wearing religious symbols. We need more efforts by police, security around Jewish institutions but above all that we collectively stand up against hatred.
