Mobile phone theft is dramatically reduced in the global cities of San Francisco, New York and London. The reason: the death button.
Apple and Samsung have in their later models installed a feature that allows the phone to be made unusable in case of loss, according to IDG.

There, the thefts have decreased by between 16 and 40 percent.
– The huge reduction in the smartphone thefts that occurred after the death button came on the market, proved that our approach makes people safer in our cities and around the world, says Eric Schneiderman, Attorney General of the State of New York, for the IDG.
