Greece has requested a six-month extension of the financial assistance program from the euro zone, and today, euro zone finance ministers meet to decide on the EU to approve the application. The ongoing rescue program expires the end of February and it has over the past few weeks have been intense negotiations between the new Greek government and other euro countries on how lånevilkoren should look like. Requests for extension of the scheme can be seen as a compromise by the Greek government to break the deadlock with its European creditors, notably Germany. The Greek government and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras hope for an agreement on a six-month bridge loan while negotiating the terms of the aid package continues. But without support, the country will not meet their payments.
