Security Service is investigating terrorist financing – Västerbotten Courier

The Security Police and prosecutors at the National Unit for safety launches investigation into suspected terrorist financing.

Economic Crimes Bureau and the police did last Tuesday raids in different Stockholm Suburbs with reference to suspected money laundering, believed to have been aimed at financing terrorism, announces SAPO.

According to data Dagens Nyheter suspected those involved have liked to send money to Syria, possibly to the militant movement Islamic State (IS). Four people, three men and a woman, sitting under arrest. Prosecutors have on the Friday of request them arrested.

Two tracks

The report is two-fold. One is the investigation of the serious tax fraud and aggravated accounting offenses being investigated by the Economic Crimes Bureau with prosecutors Ingela Ohlén the tip. The investigation comprises six companies, including a cleaning company.

The second is led by chief prosecutor Agnetha Hilding Qvarnström at the Public Prosecution Office for National Security. Offense in her part of the goal is the financing of terrorism. She wanted on Thursday not comment on the investigation.

Difficult to prove

SAPO manager Anders Thornberg do not want to go into the case, citing confidentiality, but said publicly:

– I take very seriously that terrorism is financed from Sweden.

TT: How well is Sweden for discovering such patterns?

– We is probably no better or worse than other countries. We have been attempts in the past with financing, but it is incredibly difficult to prove where the money goes in the end, says Anders Thornberg, who is in Washington, where he will participate in an international anti-terrorism meeting.

Terror researcher Hans Brown thinks it is difficult to comment on what the investigation may mean because so little is known.
