Start of Löfvens Innovation – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Start of Löfvens Innovation – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Innovation Council has its first meeting on the government’s residence Harpsund on Tuesday.

– There should be addressed topics that are important for Sweden as an innovation nation, says Löfven said.

The idea is that the government will discuss ideas with the Council, for example in areas such as infrastructure, education and research. At Tuesday’s agenda is the state venture capital. Löfven believe that today is divided between many actors, and that it should be put in the past when companies develop new products.

Innovation Council will meet approximately once a quarter and have a Secretariat in the Cabinet Office. Someone once a year, the 15 participants also get to travel anywhere in Sweden or abroad.

Prime Minister Löfven is chairman. The other ministers included are Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson (S), Industry Minister Mikael Damberg (S), Deputy Prime Minister Åsa Romson (MP), and research and education minister Helene Hellmark Knutsson (S). What are the other members will be presented before the first meeting.

The business community will have representatives.

– You must have people who can business for real, says Löfven.

He emphasizes that the Innovation Council, neither shall present a report or submit their own proposals.

– It is the government that takes responsibility for the proposals and this means that the ten persons coming from outside do not need to feel that they to take responsibility for government policy.

Innovation Council was one of the first own suggestions Stefan Löfven brought forward after he was Social Democrats’ leader in 2012. He hopes that the advice Innovation Council provides and the concrete government proposals following them will lead to more developed products, more new businesses and growing businesses.

– It’s job is all about.

Will not take time when the Council only meets once per quarter?

– It depends. It is clear that it will not be that nothing happens in between. But it’s not that there will be a new bill two weeks after the Council met.

Will there be taboos of the Council, such as tax cuts?

– We have not said what is taboo, but what we are aiming for. This will not be the great battles of taxes or labor law. Here it is more workshop. How do we get innovation processes that work best?
