The Armed Forces are using fire-fighting foams containing fluoride additives that can pollute waterways despite there being environmentally friendly alternatives. Airport Group LFV other hand, has switched to a fluorine-free fire foam on all its airports, writes New Technology.

The reason that defense still use fire foam with fluoride additives is that it is not prohibited, and the need to quickly cool down an aircraft fire.

So far there have not been any funds that we have assessed sufficiently effective as a substitute, says Folke Bergh, head of the Armed Forces environmental assessment unit, told the newspaper.

An investigation has now addition to possibly replace extinguishing foam.
