The new Swedish banknotes has two themes: Swedish people who have made great cultural contributions and Swedish natural and environmental motives.

In October 2015 released the 20, 50, 200- and 1000-kronor notes.
In October 2016 released the 100- and 500- krona notes and 1-, 2- and 5-crown.
A total of 300 million banknotes and about two billion coins replaced when only tiokronan remains.
The change of cash estimated to cost The Riksbank approximately SEK 150 million.
The old banknotes are burned, the coins are sold as scrap and metal is recycled.
Total estimated current coins weigh about 15 000 tonnes.
