SAPO does not change its threat assessment in Sweden because of the attack in Paris.
Today’s attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo is a reminder of the vulnerability applies to the editors . It said the Journalist Association president Jonas Nordling earlier today. He believes that there may be reason to external support to the editors who work with satire material in Sweden.
– The question is where the Security Service allows for the assessment of the threats based on today’s deed. I assume that they see reasons to reassess its image, he said.
But the Security Police make another assessment. The threat remains at the same level.
– We do not consider the threat exclusively on editorial boards, but the threat to newsrooms is absolutely something that we take into the overall threat assessment in Sweden. The threat level remains at an elevated level since 2010. This means that there is a probability that the operators intend to carry out attacks, says Fredrik Milder, press secretary of the Security Service, the Dagens Media.
Why not raised the threat level further?
– I can not go into detail on the parameters you use, but when the threat level was raised, it was about a specific but not immediate threat. If there were immediate threat to Sweden would most likely such an assessment is changing. What has happened in Paris is very serious events, but our threat applies to Sweden and there is no reason to safety measures within society in general.
What do Sapo to support editors who do not have financial resources to its own security?
– Police Authority and the Security Police have a joint effort to avert terrorist attacks against Sweden and Swedish interests. If you receive threats, it is the police who to turn to.
