Johan Malmquist.

On 28 April 1997, Carl Bennet as president of Getinge and was replaced by the then Deputy Managing Director Johan Malmquist. Bennet took while over as the company’s chairman.
After working 26 years at Getinge which nearly 18 president of the company announced Johan Malmquist on Monday that he resigns in connection with the AGM on 25 March this year. He was replaced by Alex Myers in the current situation is president and CEO of the bed manufacturer Hilding.
– A way of taking responsibility is perhaps also to know when it’s time to make way for a new force with new perspectives and new energy, says Johan Malmquist to the business world.
He says that he is in talks with former Chairman Carl Bennet said he would step down at the AGM in 2016, when he reached the age of 55 years. Meanwhile, Johan Malmquist announced that he would like to be involved and take responsibility for the challenges that exist in Getinge and give the Board ample time to find the right successor.
– Given that Alex (Myers) is a well-known name for the Board and additionally available so this has gone quickly.
When the Board took the decision?
– It is time a week ago. Since it has been a board meeting during Monday morning.
“It’s my lot in life,” have you said about your job at Getinge. How do you feel now?
– Getinge has been and will be my mission in life. I can not see that I will bring me into an operational role again. I really love this company.
What would you like to do next?
– I wish I had a very good answer to that question, but I have actually no reasoning at all in those terms. I will be open and a bit sensitive and I like working in this sector going forward.
Have you got some offers after you announced your defection?
– Yes, little has trickled in, but most people are aware that this is pretty fresh and does not expect a quick feedback. I have received offers in the meantime also, but has systematically declined.
Would you have wanted to change something during your time as CEO?
– This whole FDA situation I think is very boring, of course. It had been avoided. It’s no natural law that says that all companies that are in the healthcare sector with such problems.
It was just over a year ago that the FDA forced Getinge to conduct a comprehensive quality review at several of the company’s production facilities in the Medical Systems business area. Since then, Getinge’s shares have fallen more than 25 percent. Shares fell more than 3 percent on Monday, as a result of the President’s defection.
– This is something that has affected the confidence of the company. But I still believe that when we have solved this problem, we have been far greater.
Do you take on you the responsibility for FDA incident?
– Naturally . There I had to do. It’s my job.
You have more than 55 000 shares in Getinge. What will you do with them?
– Dem should I keep, everyone. I like the company and know that there are an incredible number of talented employees and that Alex is a very good leader. It’s better that I have the money somewhere where I know who manages them?
Are you considering new purchases of shares in Getinge?
– There have been few occasions where I was able to buy some shares because there have been various events and situations in the company all the time which prevented me to do it. We are in such a situation, even now when we have a communication with the FDA where the solution lies in the not too distant future.
So you’re on your way to solving the FDA issue?
– Now is not this really in our hands but I would think that we are told at the end of January or more likely in February.
Do you think it will be a positive response?
– I know roughly what it is but it’s a solution between two parties and there is nothing I can comment on the current situation.
But you see a solution?
– Yes, I do.
