 STOCKHOLM (AFX) Monday's negative trend continued throughout Tuesday on US stock exchanges. AOL went on the other hand in the opposite direction and sped after the company confirmed a takeover by Verizon.
 Shortly after 18:00 the Dow Jones Industrial dropped by 0.4 per cent to the index level of 18,032. The broader S & amp; P 500 was down 0.2 percent to the level of 2101 and it is technically heavy Nasdaq Composite recorded 0.6 percent down to the level of 4965.
 Sales in the number of shares amounted to 120 million on the New York Stock Exchange and 780 million on the Nasdaq.
 On the statistical front-stage economic confidence of US small businesses during April compared with the previous month. This shows an index of NFIB, the National Federation of Individual Business. The figure also beat market expectations.
 Furthermore, the number of vacancies in US to 4.994 billion according to statistics from the US Labor Department. Estimated was an increase to 5108 according to Bloomberg News survey forecast.
 On the company front stage Internet company AOL by 19 percent after it confirmed a takeover from the telephone company Verizon. This acquisition occurs at 50 dollars per share and the transaction is valued at approximately $ 4.4 billion. Verizon expects to finance the transaction from existing cash and securities.
 Verizon shares fell by 0.7 percent.
 Clothing manufacturer Gap dropped 3.8 percent since the company on Monday unveiled figures for the first quarter, with revenue missed estimates.
 The US ten-year rates decreased by 3 basis points to 2.25 percent.
