High expectations on the Swedish game – Swedish Dagbladet

– The industry fully booming right now, stand in all directions. It is amazing to see all the different niches that will, both from small indie labels and major developers, says Angelica Norgren, the host of P3 games on Swedish Radio.

For each year it grows Swedish computer game industry in both sales reputation. The latter is particularly noticeable when you see the list of titles that studios release the 2015th

The developers at Avalanche in Stockholm for three years worked with the highly anticipated action game “Mad Max” as released in September, the first based on the movie of the same title.

– For us it is a dream to make this game, just because it is a film that we have always abstracts to history if the silent hero, says Christofer Sundberg, founder and creative director at Avalanche.

But to take on a project based on a movie license is not always easy. Many previous examples have been cut ruthlessly and considered to be a by-product which is released only as advertising for the movie.

– “Movie Game” has become a dirty word and has gained a bad reputation, but it is often because it is a deadline for when it will be completed. If it had been so with the “Mad Max” we had never taken us than that, but now we got free rein from Warner Bros., he says.

Why Sweden has become a successful country, there are many theories. In addition to the basic technical knowledge and the courage to realize their dreams mean Christofer Sundberg that it is because the Swedish gambling market is different from the US.

– There can be perceived hostility between studios, while in Sweden we have more a team approach where we pull each other forward. It started in the studios of an interest and passion for making games, not to build big businesses, he said.

But although interest laid the foundation for the Swedish gaming miracle has become a multi-billion industry – which is clear when it comes to how much money the games will cost to develop. What “Mad Max” has the budget would not Sundberg reveal more detail than it is in the range of what is normal in the AAA class.

– When we talk of between 20 and 100 million. Dollars.
