Professors accused of spying – Swedish Dagbladet

They must have worked for the Chinese government’s behalf.

According to the indictment, with 32 points, the Chinese have since 2006 worked to get over American technology and trade secrets related to mobile telephony. The information should have been transferred to Chinese universities and companies controlled by the government in Beijing.

Business secrets must have been stolen by the US companies Avago Technologies in California and Skyworks Solutions in Massachusetts. A company was set up in the tax haven of the Cayman Islands. This company – called ROFS Microsystems – checked according to the indictment of Chinese academics and Tianjin University, with the support of the Chinese government. The company was set up to manufacture competing technology.

One of the accused is Hao Zhang, a professor at Tianjin University. The other professors at the same university, Wei Pang and Jinping Chen. The former is a former employee of Avago and the other is a director of ROFS Microsystems.

Also the other defendants are academics, including Zhao Gang – head of ROFS Microsystems.
