AstraZeneca miljardsatsar in Sodertalje – Swedish Dagbladet

AstraZeneca employees in Sweden has been through closure after closure. But on Monday came, finally a positive outcome for Sodertalje.

AstraZeneca invests $ 285 million, SEK 2.3 billion in a new plant for the production of biopharmaceuticals in Södertälje .

The news gets Union local union president at Astra rejoice.

– It feels incredibly wonderful! It is not possible to describe the effort this is. We have the wind in the sails and the future is secure for a good while to come, says Eva Cederwall Finn to SvD Enterprise.

The new facility will be operational in 2019 and will produce drugs for clinical trials program for Astra and MedImmune.

The Medicines Company’s CEO Pascal Soriot is in place in Södertälje and said according to a press release that this “is a strategically important investment for Astra Zeneca.”

– Of course I will overjoyed . We have felt a positive era ago Pascal (CEO Pascal Soriot, editor’s note) came in as CEO and that we were headed in the right direction. Now it becomes even clearer. It is the right thing we are focusing on, says Eva Cederwall Finn.

The MPA describes a biological drugs as “a preparation, the active substance produced in or purged out of the material of biological origin (living cells or tissue)” .

Even IF Metall is happy after the announcement. Milan Bogicevic, the local union branch chairman of the IF Metall says it went well for a long time in production in Södertälje.

– Our production has always gone to the train and this is proof that we are right. This makes it secures the future in Södertälje in a different way. It feels great and is very fun and positive for Astra Zeneca in Sweden, he says.
