State confiscate Pirate Bay’s network addresses – Swedish Radio

The Stockholm District Court states that the domains piratebay.se and thepiratebay.se shall accrue to the state, the report DN.se. It is the first time a prosecutor requested that a Swedish Internet address to disappear from the web.

The two domain names, used to power the filesharing service The Pirate Bay, will forfeited from its current owners and transformed into state ownership. And it will become impossible for the foundation that manages the Swedish domain names to sell them on to someone else, it writes Dagens Nyheter.

Further reports the DN that the judgment opens a new way for the police to go after sites that are considered criminal. Previously, the only way was to find the physical servers that may be located around the world.

The bracket sets, however, do not stop to operate the site during an address other than a .se domain. It is unclear whether the verdict will be appealed.
