SAS chief warns of major strike-interference – Swedish Dagbladet

If not will be no immediate solution will the Swedish pilots at SAS airline to go on strike at midnight between Wednesday and Thursday. Also part of the Norwegian pilots threaten strike from the same time.

Breaking strike out, it will have major consequences for SAS air traffic. Nearly 700 of a total of more than 1400 pilots at SAS may go on strike. It is not possible now to say exactly which flights are canceled or affected in any other way.

– There will be huge disruption if the strike breaks out. We do everything we can to avoid that we end up there but we are also preparing to the best possible care for our passengers if it happens. I urge our passengers to follow developments on the Web, says Rickard Gustafson, CEO, SAS.

SAS pilots in Denmark and the Norwegian pilots who are union SNF has already come agreed with SAS on a new agreement. The conflict now apply to the Norwegian pilots who are in another union, NSF, and the Swedish pilots in Swedish, SweALPA. In Sweden and Norway, working for some time mediator to try to get the unions and employers to agree on a new agreement.

According to Rickard Gustafson wants management to basically get the two remaining unions to sign a similar agreement the other two already agreed. SPF want during mediation does not give any comment on what is being discussed between the parties.

Basically the conflict that SAS wants to get to the simplification of the comprehensive agreement that pilots have so far had. According to the lead will it come quicker to adjust to the changes that constantly occur in the aviation market.

SAS management also wants pilots to work more in the summer when there are many who want to travel and then work less during low season. In this way, SAS can meet the competition from other airlines that meet seasonal fluctuations by picking up pilots from agencies or temporary hiring them as self-employed.

– We want to keep the Scandinavian model, and we want our own employees pilots. We do not want to work with contract staff. It’s a bit strange that pilots direct their strike against the company that stands for just that, says Rickard Gustafson.

The SPF has previously stated that it is on simplifying the agreements but if the pilots should work more in the summer must it is done by the SAS attracts them with better remuneration. At the same time points out the SPF to SAS’s costs for pilots already been cut by 40 percent over the past four years by an agreement on lower wages, poorer retirement and longer working hours.

The latter is a task that SAS rejects. According to SAS, the costs of the pilots during the four-year period decreased by 9 percent while costs for other staff declined by 21 percent.

Rickard Gustafson also warns that it could have major consequences for SAS planned investments unless the company gets through their conditions. Traditionally, the greater part of SAS’s long-distance traffic via Copenhagen. But the company plans to open more long lines directly from Stockholm and Oslo. In September, SAS will start a direct line from Stockholm to Hong Kong.

We must be able to operate profitably even if there is a tough competition in the aviation market. May we not to profitability in Sweden and Norway, it will be understood not as easy to expand production from there, says Rickard Gustafson.

He also stated that the company can force revise their investment plans. SAS Orders lying on new aircraft both flying in Europe and long-haul operations.
