The oil company Shell has now agreed to replace the locals in Nigeria with a total of $ 84 million as compensation for two oil spills in the Niger Delta in the south.

In addition, the Company provide an additional $ 30 million for the entire local community in Bodo that almost completely destroyed by two oil leaks in 2008 and 2009.

The law firm that represents fishermen say that the deal is the first of its kind in the country and one of the biggest benefits paid by an oil company to a whole society. This way, three years of legal battles over.
Shell assumes responsibility for oil leakage at an oil pipeline in Ogoniland carrying 180,000 barrels per day. But the company insists that the biggest cause of oil spills and environmental damage throughout the area due to oil theft and illegal oil refineries.
