A proposal to build a new nuclear reactor is located to the Government but the bourgeois is fragmented. MP intend to put a stop to the plans of the party in power in the fall. The Social Democrats choose to duck the issue.

There is the technical universities Chalmers and KTH with Uppsala University who want to build the reactor, reports the Financial Times. The reactor will be used for research into the next generation of nuclear power. The question now for consultation at the Swedish Research Council and is determined only after the elections.

The proposal adds crack in the energy issue between the Centre Party and the Liberal Party into the open.

– I very much welcome this, says nuclear friend Jan Björklund (Liberal) to Dagens Industri.

The Centre Party said in its election manifesto that 100 percent of Sweden’s renewable energies within a generation . Party leader Annie Loof declare right now that she is opposed to the research.

– We want to invest in green, renewable energy and support the already started and existing research facilities such as the MAX IV in Lund says Loof said.

The Green Party goes to the polls to close at least two reactors during the next term. According Lisen Nordin, the party’s spokesperson on energy policy, there will be a flat refusal to the research of MP ends up in office.

– This is a wrong investment. The government wants to take Sweden into an expensive dead end. It is about SEK 1.5 billion, which should instead be spent on developing renewable energy technologies, says Nordin.

MP’s proposed Government partners the Social Democrats take a more cautious stance on the issue of future of nuclear power. There is talk that nuclear power “will be gradually phased out, with regard to employment and welfare.” Also want to have an S-partisan agreement on energy policy.

The Social Democrats currently choose to duck questions about the new nuclear reactor. In anticipation of the Research Council’s report wants the party not to comment, said press secretary Hakan Gestrin TT.

Lisen Nordin is hopeful about the possibility to adopt a united front with S.

– Last year we were and the Social Democrats in parliament agreed that the allocation for energy research will be directed entirely towards how we can reach 100 percent renewable energy, says Nordin.
