Izmir: Principals will receive training every five years – Swedish Radio

The Social Democrats want the principals to be trained by a mandatory continuing education every five years. This shall apply to all principals that have passed the headmaster training introduced 2011th Party school political spokesperson Ibrahim Baylan think this is the way to improve schools.

– The is a huge amount of research that shows that the principal along with the teachers are the key players if we are to reverse the very negative trend that we have in the Swedish school. Principal’s educational leadership is central along with teachers’ skills.

The presidents have previously been offered training but there are not many who had the time or opportunity to go. Therefore it shall be obligatory says Ibrahim Baylan.

– I think it will be much easier for principals to their employers. Because I’m fairly certain that the principals basically want to attend this program. If it becomes mandatory, well then there will be no issue of discussion with the employer, says Ibrahim Baylan.

SEK 50 million will be invested in the project to get more head teachers to have time to develop their education.

– We do this because we, unlike the government is prepared to raise some taxes to finance investments in school. Because we believe it is important for the country in the long run, says Ibrahim Baylan.

Ibrahim Baylan believes that it is important that principals must focus on the pedagogical work.

– There have been several reports that the Swedish principals are becoming more and more bureaucrats with less time for the pedagogical work. Nor have they any ongoing training. This, I believe it is time to break if we are to ensure that more students reach the goals. We need to improve conditions for teachers and principals, said Ibrahim Izmir.
