The pressure is increasing on Greece to find a way out of the acute crisis.
Today, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Tsipras criticized by a heavy MEP erupted uproar in Parliament.
The European Parliament gathered today for an extraordinary emergency meeting on the economic crisis in Greece.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk has given speeches to Parliament.
It was Tusk who was first out. He had a rather conciliatory tone, while he stressed the seriousness of the situation:
– If Greece leaves the euro it will affect all of Europe.
Alexis Tsipras went in his speech to the hard attack the requirements imposed on Greece.
– Greece has turned into a laboratory for cuts. And this experiment has not been successful.
Tsipras also accused the media of terrorizing the Greek voters before Sunday’s election. The statement was answered with boos from the parliamentarians.
“Oxi” signs in Parliament
Several representatives of the extreme right in Europe, including former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, brought signs with the text “oxy”, then no, in Greek, to the meeting. The slogan used by critics to the lenders’ conditions for Sunday’s referendum.
Mr Juncker did however, took matters into their own hands – and drew the sign of Farages hands.
Several summits
Yesterday was held summits on the conveyor belt in Brussels. First hit the euro finance ministers. Then held an emergency meeting where Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the heaviest EU leaders participated.
Afterwards was the message from the euro zone’s peak clear: It’s now or never for Greece.
Expires Sunday
Last Thursday, Greece must introduce reforms that are comprehensive enough to lenders IMF, ECB and EU Commission will grant new emergency loans.
On Sunday, meet the leaders of the EU all 28 Member States participate. Then an agreement on the way out of the crisis is reached.
– I have to say it loud and clear, the last deadline expires this week, said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker last night.
Preparing for Grexit
According to Juncker, the EU’s top management drawn up plans to deal with several different scenarios for the future.
– We have prepared a Grexit scenario in detail, a humanitarian scenario and a scenario where Greece remains in the euro zone, he said.
