Stressed life requires extra sleep – Helsingborgs Dagblad

The research team exposed 15 testers for a learning elements before they got to sleep. Some of them had to sleep four hours, another eight. When the researchers then tested what people remembered noticed no difference between those who slept a long time and those who received only half a night’s sleep. However, there was significant differences when the researchers put into a stress factor.

– Then it was only those who slept eight hours that could handle the task, says Christian Benedict.

For the other participants had memory capability declined by about 10 percent. According to Christan Benedict is basically no living such a stress free life that the memory can be maintained at less than seven hours of sleep. Although the need for sleep is individual and may vary slightly from person to person.

In order to withdraw information from long-term memory during stress need namely the anterior brain to be refreshed, which occurs during the final hours of sleep, it is called dream sleep.

– We are constantly disturbed. Someone calls and asks you important things while you are in the store to buy candy with your child, he says.

A clear example on the brain the need for a longer period of sleep when stress is exam.

– The students sit up and plugs all night to store as much as possible in the long-term memory is not a good strategy because the next morning can not recall the memory when experiencing a very stressful situation, he said.
