Last year, 23 people were killed in accidents involving pleasure craft. It is clearly less than in 2013 when 36 people died in recreational boating accidents, according to state Transportation Board.
The vast majority drowned in harbors and lakes. Only two of the fatalities died of injuries, both during collisions with smaller commercial vessels.
Transport Agency propagate life jacket, functional rescue ladders and waterproof cases for mobile phones.
“To have a waterproof mobile phone case is something that is demonstrably saved lives. During the year, at least three people rescued because they have been able to call 112 when they swum at the capsized boats, “said Transport Agency Deputy Director General Jacob Gramenius in a press release.
