The trio behind Top Gear takes in 46 million new starting lineup – Zennstrom … – Business Week

Skype founder Niklas Zennström’s company is one of the main investors in the new social nätveket.

TV show Top Gear former TV host Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James may might have brought in $ 5.5 million (46 million) in venture capital til its new digital startups, Drive Tribe, writes the Financial Times.

Investors include Breyer Capital and Niklas Zennström’s Atomico.

Drivetrive to be a social network and publishing platform for the motor enthusiasts. The ambition is that the service will be live in November. Program Leadership trio will make their own programs, but the site will also have user-generated blogs and discussion forums.

Drive Tribe manager Ernesto Schmitt says that the potential is enormous and indicates that there are 400 million motor enthusiasts just on Facebook.

Jeremy Clarkson sacked from the BBC in March after a series of disagreements with the TV company. It has previously been mapping the Top Gear trio also be making programs for e-commerce giant Amazon.
