The political maneuvers hails right now about a possible new trade agreement between the EU and the US, the so-called TTIP. Will there be no agreement actually happens nothing. The trade continues with the same rules as before.
– It’s not that the world will stand or fall with this agreement, says Henrik Isakson, an expert on free trade agreements at the Board of Trade.
Trade, is the Swedish authority for foreign trade, has made calculations showing that Sweden’s exports to the United States could increase by around 17 per cent of TTIP becomes reality. At the same time, imports from the United States to increase by about 15 percent. But the figures should be taken with a large pinch of salt, says Henrik Isakson, as they rely on a variety of assumptions.
– The motor vehicle industry in Sweden could be a winner because of the areas are customs duties. There are also different rules in the US and the EU on how to guarantee that the cars are safe and serviceable. If you get the rules to be similar to each other, it would be easier to sell vehicles in the US, he said.
The same applies pharmaceutical industry. If the EU and the US can agree to trust each other inspection authorities, so that medications such does not have to be tested twice, it may reduce companies’ costs.
Swedish company that is in its infancy, or may not even exist in today can also be the winner, in the future, according to Henrik Isakson.
– A main point of the agreement is to establish systems to avoid trade problems from the beginning, that cooperation on regulation.
But a new trade could also lead to individual companies turned out.
More competition is, by definition, some companies are eliminated. But which industries it may concern, I would not speculate, says Henrik Isakson.
