More expensive disasters but fewer deaths – Västerbotten Courier

Insurance terms more expensive but not as life-consuming. How can the world’s disasters, both natural and influenced by man, is summarized so far this year, according to the Swiss reinsurance company Swiss Re.

Catastrophes cost the world’s insurance companies 31 billion dollars, 260 billion, the first half of this year, increase of 51 percent compared with the same period last year. But the number of lives lost in the disaster was only half that number, an estimated 6000.

In total, the disaster costs have amounted to 71 billion dollars (600 billion). That it became more expensive for insurers this year due to the disasters in large part took place in Europe, USA and Canada where coverage by insurance is higher.
