Embraer may lead role in the production of the Gripen – New Technology

       

On Tuesday signed the contract between Saab and Embraer, which determines how the strategic coordinates the program on Brazil’s acquisition of 36 Gripen E / F aircraft. The latter are called in Brazil for the F-X2 project.

According to Saab’s press release late last night may partner Embraer a leading role in the F-X2 project.

The Brazilian company will, among other things, be responsible for a “significant portion” of production and deliveries of both the single-seat Gripen E that the two-seater model Gripen F.

Embraer will also be responsible for the work packages related to system development, integration, flight test, final assembly and for aircraft deliveries and may be involved in coordinating all development and production activities that take place in Brazil. The parties also share the responsibility to develop new Gripen C.

Saab will this autumn to train engineers from Embraer in how to do maintenance and development work on the Gripen planes, as a first step in the upcoming Aeronautics transfer from Sweden to Brazil.

Together, the companies must also erect a engineering center at Embraer’s facility in Gavião Peixoto, in southern Brazil. The center will in future provide support for the Brazilian Air Force.

Meanwhile, the new agreement will not take effect until the F-X2 agreements between Saab and its main partner in Brazil – Air Force command Comaer – are clear, as they are expected to be this spring. Comaer part in the country’s defense ministry.

The F-X2 agreements included both the purchase contract, and support and maintenance, said Jenny Nilsson, Press Officer at Saab.

The Brazilian Gripen is scheduled for delivery in the years 2019 to 2024.
