The union surprised at Volvo’s CEO change – Swedish Radio


change of CEO at AB Volvo surprised union representatives in Gothenburg. Olof Persson gets fired as president and CEO, and he was succeeded by Martin Lundstedt, currently president of Volvo’s competitor Scania.

Urban Spännar is the steward of the Volvo for salaried Union.

Volvo has an ongoing savings program of around 10 billion. In one year the number of Volvo employees decreased by a total of 3260 people, and this has greatly affected the officials in Sweden. Around 300 members of the Union in Gothenburg has left Volvo in connection with the austerity package. Volvo savings seems to have started to take effect. Today, Volvo reports a profit for the first quarter of SEK 6 billion, compared with 1.7 billion in the corresponding period last year. Volvo’s shares have shot up on Wednesday, and Urban Spännar looks pretty bright future.

– Our view is that Olof has swung into the company in the right direction. Our hope is that Martin will continue. He certainly puts his stamp on this and I hope he continues the dialogue we have had.

On Volvo’s truck plant in Tuve’s reactions to the change of CEO cautiously optimistic among the employees as P4 Gothenburg spoke with.
