Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piëch resigns with immediate effect, says the company. The message comes just two days after Piëch denied that he tried to force out the company’s CEO Martin Winterkorn from his post.
Just over two weeks ago said Piëch to Der Spiegel that he distanced himself from Winterkorn, a statement that triggered a power struggle in the VW top.
Volkswagen has announced that the company extends Winter Korn’s contract. Despite this, Piëch have tried to get a majority of the Board members to vote out Winterkorn from the Board. He should also have contacted Porsche boss Matthias Müller and told him to prepare for a CEO-shifting.
The Board says that its members “unanimously held that the mutual trust necessary for successful cooperation is no longer there “. Even Piëchs wife leave their positions of trust.
