The Swedish interest deduction has been criticized a lot lately. Among other things, both the IMF and the OECD have it removed to reduce the Swedish household debt.
But the government has no current plans to remove the deduction.
– It affects the individual economy a lot, says Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) to svd.se.
She also says that the previous government had a “golden opportunity” to abolish the deduction when the property tax was removed.
