In Sweden we return empties more and more each year, according to recent statistics from Returpack we set in 2015 a new record. On average, we pledged 171 cans and PET bottles per person. The year before the cut 169 pieces.
– Since the deposit system was introduced in Sweden for more than 30 years ago, the number of pledged packaging has increased steadily each year and today recovered about 84 percent of all cans and PET bottles. It makes us one of the best countries in the world when it comes to mortgages up, says Katarina Lundell, Communications at Returpack drives Panta Mera in order to increase the recycling of cans and PET bottles, in a press release.
Altogether regained Swedes about 1.69 billion cans and PET bottles last year. This corresponds to an energy saving of 325 million kWh and is enough to heat 25,000 homes for a whole year.
