Aircraft crossed the Pacific Ocean – with only a solar – Business Week

Yesterday landed the solar-powered plane in California after a three-day flight over the Pacific.

In March last year launched Planet Solar Impulse 2 its världsomflygning in Abu Dhabi. The aircraft will get around the globe using only solar power.

The purpose of the aircraft is to increase awareness of solar energy. Rekodflygningen of five days from the Japanese Nagoya to Hawaii has a clear message: Everyone can use plane technology to halve the world’s energy consumption, conserve natural resources and improve our quality of life.

Halfway on the journey had aircraft problems with the batteries, and the pilots were had to stop in Hawaii. During the past eight months undergoing repairs. Last Thursday left the aircraft Hawaii and after 62 hours of landing safely at Moffett Air Field in Mountain View, California. The landing in the US will be the ninth leg of the trip. The next destination is New York.

If all goes as planned, the aircraft is expected to be back in Abu Dhabi in August later this year.
