agricultural survey 2016
the interviews took place between January 11 to 25 2016 agricultural survey is an annual report that shows farmers’ perception of the current situation in agriculture. It has been published since 1987, and this year’s Agricultural Outlook Survey is the 29th full-time edition. Sifo interviewed in January 1000 farmers, in September last year interviewed 500 farmers.
The result for the region of Västra Götaland and Värmland shows that it is part of Sweden where farmers have relatively strong faith that they’ll get better profitability.
It is best profitability right now for pork, pretty good for the beef but profitability is poorer crop and milk.
Västra Götaland and Värmland Värmland is the part of Sweden where the largest proportion of farmers plan to reduce milk production.
Invest in bad times
It is the youngest farmers who are most optimistic about the future and the most satisfied with their economy. There are signs that agricultural investments will increase.
Per-Anders Freyhult notes that there is a tradition in agriculture to invest when it is worst to be able to deliver products when prices have turned upward.
Previously, there has been a clear pattern of price volatility in agricultural products, but the pattern has been broken. The explanation mainly because it is a global overproduction of food and Russian trade sanctions.
Facilities
What to Swedish agriculture make or invest in for the future? Helena Iacono gives some advice:
– highlight the added value of Swedish food.
– See if you can find niche products and start processing on the farm.
– Streamlining and utilizing methods used by the industry to increase productivity. This can include the order and to have clear working procedures at the farm.
