Population growth in Sweden is the highest since the early 1800s, according to Statistics Sweden’s forecast. The explanation is the high immigration.
– We are facing a fairly high population growth in the coming years, and it is largely due to the fact that more moves to Sweden than moving here, says Andreas Raneke, demographer at Statistics Sweden ( SCB).
SCB expects a population increase of about 1.5 per cent annually, a rate that has not occurred in Sweden since a few years in the 1820s 1830s. In five years, counting Authority in the living 739,000 more people in Sweden. Most of the population increase, namely 570 000 new residents, can be attributed to immigration, explains Andreas Raneke. He says that immigration to Sweden is “historically high”.
– It is important to add that it does not depend solely on refugee immigration, but immigration from Europe, the Nordic countries, and also people who come here from countries outside the EU to work, study, or start a family with Swedish citizens, he said.
at last year’s population forecast believed Statistics Sweden’s population would pass the 10 million mark in 2016, but this year’s forecast pushed the date forward 2017. the reason is that many asylum seekers came to Sweden last autumn have not received their asylum applications processed by the Immigration Service, and are therefore not counted in the statistics.
– It is only when you are registered as one part in the figures, said Andreas Raneke.
SCB flag for the forecast is uncertain, because it is difficult to predict how changes in asylum rules will affect immigration.
