Requires annual wage surveys – Sveriges Radio

Annual wage surveys was something that Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) promised would be launched already during his first year as Prime Minister. But now it will be the turn of the year.

– pay surveys every year is an effective tool to use to access the unjustified differences in pay between women and men, says Culture Minister Alice Bah Kuhnke (MP) who is responsible for discrimination issues in the government.

It was 2009 alliance government pushed through that companies no longer had to make salary surveys more than once every three years. But now the red-green government again this should be done every year, starting from the end of the year.

The requirement for an action plan for companies with at least 25 employees disappear. Instead, all employers with at least ten employees document the work of the survey of women’s and men’s wages.

The draft given to the council today is expected to get support in parliament. Both the Left and the Sweden Democrats have been pushing in this matter, and liberals give their support to the government’s proposal even though it was with and took away the annual surveys.

– Yes, it was a reform that the Alliance did for to reduce bureaucracy and red tape for business and it was a series of key parts of the reform, says Fredrik Malm, liberals labor market policy spokesman.

– But in terms of wage surveys, so is our perception of the Liberals it was unfortunate the removal of the salary survey operations each year. We also appointed a commission to reinstate surveys every year. We think that gender equality in the labor market is so important that we should support these kinds of proposals.

But the other Alliance parties are against a change. Annika Qarlsson, Centre Party’s gender equality policy spokesperson does not expect the work to achieve equal pay will go faster, in order to make surveys more frequently than every three years:

– Provide instead Equality Ombudsman a mission to go and actually follow up that actually makes this more concrete. We believe this would be a better and more important contribution and action than to add this rule hassle and requirements of small businesses.

Just the administrative burden for smaller companies is something that especially business organizations lift up. But Alice Bah Kuhnke, responsible for issues of discrimination in the government, do not believe that the new requirements will weigh on companies too much:

– There is an initial cost increase to pay surveys every year, but when it becomes a routine, which becomes part of the everyday routines of reports that companies make when the Board will also reduce investment costs.
