Currently: Press conference on layoffs at Bombardier in Vasteras – Sveriges Radio

In Västerås laid off 250 staff and 50 hourly employees for dismissal.

Klas Wahlberg, CEO of Bombardier Transportation Sweden, says the layoffs are part of a larger action.

– it is part of a global restructuring program as Bombardier Group and Bombardier Transportation implements, which total in rail operations is about 3 200 people affected.

the background to the notices is an increasing international competition.

– We have seen increased competition from a number of competitors merge to form larger units, especially the Chinese that we face at the global level. Moreover, we see how subcontractors merge to form second-impact clusters, plus our customers changing buying behavior and other requirements, said Klas Wahlberg.

– One simply sharpen itself to be with there and then we make such a review within the group, and then there will be consequences here in Vasteras for what we will be aiming for in the future.

we will focus on the development in product areas where we are world leaders, signaling systems, advanced drive and control systems and train control systems, as well as train maintenance.

Klas Wahlberg says that the restructuring means that the company prioritizes adaptation of global product platforms to Nordic conditions in the same way as is already happening in locomotives and trams.

After the Bombardier plant for several years is shrinking now the company again.

– With these cuts have been announced in Västerås, we will return to the level the staff that we had for six or seven years ago. So we have had a growth and now we diet down again. And then we take the chance to omoritentera us.

Right now, Bombardier has about 2 000 employees in Sweden, of which 1300 in Västerås.

Now begins negotiations with the unions, says Pär Isaksson, Head of Communications at Bombardier Sweden.

– we hope to find solutions where we help in various ways. Above all, it means that we need to recruit in other parts of Bombardier, not least signaling activity and also on maintenance service.
