Slight fall for the clothing industry – Västerbotten Courier

Sales of clothing and footwear specialist retailers, measured in comparable units, and at current prices, fell in September compared with the same month last year. Clothing sales fell by 3.4 percent and footwear sales by 10.3 percent.

“It was not a good start to the autumn sales,” says Mikael Sandström, branch chairman of the Swedish Trade Federation, in a statement.

But the month’s poor performance is not unique. Since 2008, the clothing industry increased only one year in September, in 2012, and the shoe business for two years, namely 2010 and 2012.

But, accumulated in years is both clothing and footwear sales in the plus. And online shopping is growing, albeit modestly.

“Clothes are sold over the Internet increased by 1.8 percent in September and has so far this year has increased by 2 percent,” according to Mikael Sandström.
