Almost half of the Swedish Tax Office for investigation of tax offenses must be closed, according to Sveriges Radio Echo.

In total there are about 15 units that will be eight. The offices in Halmstad, Kalmar, Jönköping, Karlstad, Västerås, Falun and Gavle affected by the closures.

Nearly 250 criminal tax investigators reduced to 200 in the future, writes echo.

Anders Bäck who is head of the Tax Agency says that a final decision has yet been taken, but it probably will be ready within a couple of weeks.

– We have seen that the number of reported crimes decreased and we have left a number of locations where we have relatively few employees. And we believe that if you look at this in the longer term, we will have a better use of resources and will be even more effective if we create some larger units, he says to the echo.

Among the staff, there is now a concern that tax crimes among entrepreneurs may increase their small local offices will be closed.
