On Tuesday came news about record-high fines to several of Scania’s European competitors. Among others, Volvo hit with a fine of 6.4 billion. Although Iveco, DAF and Daimler were juicy fine, after suspicions that for years they worked together to control prices and delay the emission requirements. The four companies now have three months to pay a record fine of over 27 billion.

German truck manufacturer MAN, which also was part of the cartel, should have acted whistleblower and sagging therefore pay a fine. At the same time, Volvo, Iveco, DAF and Daimler admitted that they made mistakes which resulted in their fines written down by 10 percent.

The Swedish truck manufacturer Scania has been accused of conspiracy – but unlike the competitors hit the Scania from the EU Commission’s allegations that the company shall have participated in a cartel with other leading truck manufacturers in Europe. Therefore now continuing European Commission investigation of the company.

– Our position is that we have cooperated fully with the European Commission during the investigation, said Susanna Berlin, at Scania’s IR department, and continues:

– But we do not share the conclusions that we have reached agreements with other manufacturers about prices, or tried to delay the introduction of new engines that are compatible with EU emission requirements.

You have not entered into cooperation with the other truck manufacturers?

– It is our view.

Have you had any kind of contact with the other companies?

– We do not comment on it.

Volvo had previously made provisions of over 6 billion to fend off any fines imposed by the European Commission’s scrutiny. Some similar provisions, Scania has not done.

– We have not made any provision, says Susanna Berlin.

The other four companies suspected to have recognized while you deny?

– the only thing I can say is that we do not share the conclusions reached in the case.

How does Scania cartels?

– I can not comment on it.

How did so, Scania is affected by standing outside a cartel between the other major truck manufacturers?

– I do not want to elaborate on it or speculate on how we have been affected.

Ms Berlin does not want to comment on how the company looks to be under further investigation by the European Commission.

– I do not want to say anything about what the next steps. We must communicate later.
