More VAB-cheating is detected – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Social Insurance has tightened control, and last year increased the amount that parents were reclaimed at several million.

A total of 733 parents were required last year to a total of SEK 14.8 million for irregular payments of temporary parental benefit, ie money they get when they are at home with a sick child. There is a substantial increase compared with the previous year, when 472 parents had to pay back a total of 5.8 million.

The explanation is that the Social Insurance Agency clearly sharpened the process of finding the contribution of crime within the VAB-compensation.

Instead of general controls, a sample of cases where the risk of deficiencies are considered as great.

– We have certain criteria that will flag up certain cases. Exactly how the criteria looks like we communicate not print. It may also be that they occurred in these investigations before, says Daniel Lundmark, Controller of Insurance Agency.

Most recovery is clean mistake. But in nearly a third of cases, the assessment is that it has been of deliberate cheating and the case is notified when the police. Most common is the registered VAB but still worked and been paid.

There’s recovery last year stood at 1.1 million, which is an unusually high figure. Second highest amount was less than half of that sum, and the median amount that parents had to pay back was just over 6300 SEK.

A majority of the contributions crimes reported to the police depreciated. In recent years, between 20-38 percent resulted in a judgment.

– Prosecutors tend to go ahead with the most serious cases, says Daniel Lundmark.

Large amounts are also required every year back in assistance benefits, an area that Social Insurance particular focus on since 2011. Last year, landed sum of 79.6 million. In some cases it was organized structure with links to serious organized crime.

The next few years count Social Insurance discovering even more cheating. The controls will both refined and extended to more areas.

– We are constantly working to sample profile should be better, says Daniel Lundmark.
