(SIX) Russian courts proposed to have the power to seize foreign-owned assets on Russian soil. It appears from a bill that was submitted to the Russian parliament on Wednesday, Reuters reported on Thursday afternoon. According to the news agency, the proposal must be seen as a response action at the Western sanctions against Russian individuals and companies as a result of Russia's role in Ukraine crisis. The bill also includes the possibility for the Russian government to compensate individuals whose assets abroad seized. Reuters notes that the Italian authorities earlier this week confiscated property worth around 30 million euros from the company controlled by Russian businessman Arkady Rotenberg, achieved stand close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
