LO chairman Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson goes against the S-line.

He opens up the need for new nuclear power.

– We need to have good access to cheap energy and electricity. If it comes from nuclear power or anything else, it’s not important, says Thorwaldsson in echo Saturday interview.

Nuclear power has been one of the hot potatoes during valspurtens party leader duels . Time and again, the conflict between the Green Party and the Social Democrats made clear.

echo Saturday interview today took LO base Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson a clear position on the issue:

– We need to have good access to cheap energy and electricity. If it comes from nuclear power or anything else, it’s not important.

ducking the question

Thorwaldsson, sitting in the Social Democrats’ executive committee, open to it may need new nuclear power.

– The most important thing for us is energy and electricity prices. Here we have a major social problem where our competitive risks becoming worse and there are many jobs that it’s all about, he says.

The openness toward nuclear conflict, however, with the S-line – and most of the Green Party.

MP wants namely shut down two nuclear reactors in the coming term, while S has the hammer through that nuclear power “will be phased out sucessivt” but in the long term. Löfven is however known from his time as chairman of IF Metall as a proponent of nuclear power.

He has however not been able to give any indication of what the phase-out means, if the old reactors will be replaced with the new or closed down completely. His response has in recent weeks been rather sweeping:

– We need to have a broad agreement.

What it means is written in the stars. But he pointed out that it must not jeopardize the industry.

‘Can not rule out “

The alliance has repeatedly stated that it wants a broad energy agreement that Sweden should build new nuclear reactors.

Thorwaldsson emphasizes that it may be the case.

– We think long term we will have renewable energy but it is not impossible that we have to replace reactors. You can not go into negotiation and say how it should be. You have to negotiate with S and other parties.

If it is a betrayal of the Social Democrats’ decision on the settlement, he says:

– Yes, it’s that with compromises, it may not always as you want and it is clear that many want a government with 50 per cent support of the Social Democrats. You have to compromise and turn to other parties to get through it.

LO base emphasizes that there must be expanded nuclear power at the expense of safety.

– No one in the trade union movement wants us to have poor security.

Meanwhile, negotiations between the S and the MP in question in the crucial issue of nuclear power.
